How
Can I Increase My Chances Of Being Contacted By
Employers?
Make
the Short Description field really
meaningful. This is what employers see when they
first do a search. Avoid being too cute. "17-Year
old know it all" won't cut it. Use the
Background section to describe the types of
skills you possess, and the types of jobs you would
like to tackle. DO NOT LEAVE THE BACKGROUND SECTION
BLANK. If you simply put "please see my resume or
website" you are risking that employers won't click
through. You have their attention, so say something
meaningful! If you are an artist or writer, point
to URLs on the web where your work can be seen. I
am amazed by web designers who send me resumes
without URLs. (If you don't have a web site,
consider our Enhanced
Listing)
As you add new skills and experience, update your
MacTalent listing. If you change your email
address or phone number, be sure to update your
record. Otherwise employers can't contact you. And
CHECK FOR TYPOS AND ERRORS! Employers are
not impressed by bad spelling and poor English.

How
Do I Update My Listing?
When
you first ADD a new entry to MacTalent, you get the
chance to review it and edit it before it is added
to the database. Please use this opportunity
to makes necessary corrections.
To
update your listing, login
using the username and password assigned at time of
sign up. (If you signed up before we added this
update capability, or just have forgotten your
password, please email
us). Please save your password. It cannot be changed by you, only by MacTalent.

Can
I Have More Space For My
Resume/Background?
You
get 200 words to list your accomplishments in the
Background field. We will edit your listing if you
go over the limit, so use the Word Count feature in
your word processor to limit your listing.
MacTalent offers an Enhanced
Listing
for $29/year, which allows you up to 1500
words, enough to paste a 3 page resume. Or we will
help you create your own web page with your resume
and list it in the Resume Page field. To sign up
for the Enhanced Listing service or request info on

How
Can I Stay Anonymous?
Anonymity
is a big concern when you are currently employed
but "looking". And MacTalent has built in several
features which allow you to keep your identity
secret. We do not display your street address or
your real name, just your Web Name, City and State.
The Web
Name is
the key. You can use any name you like, and no-one
need see your real name. Employers cannot search
for phone numbers or email addresses, although
email addresses come up once you do a search for a
certain skill set, otherwise employers have no way
of contacting you. Another thing you can do is sign
up with an email forwarder such as http://www.pobox.com
or Google Gmail
These
alias names are not totally confidential, but they
do make it harder for people to find your real
identity.
If
you REALLY want to keep your identity confidential,
sign up for our MacAnonymous
Service. In
this case, your email address is listed as
something like mactalent123@mactalent.com in the
database, like a blind box number. Inquiries are
forwarded to your "real" email account
automatically; employers never know your real email
address. MacAnonymous is included at no additional
charge! If you want this option, select it on the
payment form when you sign up. You must enter your
REAL email address on our signup form (so we know
where to forward your mail). We will substitute the
"blind" address for you before publishing your
profile on the web site.

Why
Do I Have To List My Phone Number?
If
you want to make it easy for employers to contact
you, include your phone number, beeper, email, and
cellular number! However, we know that some people
prefer to be contacted by email exclusively. And
that's perfectly OK. There are two fields for phone
numbers. The CONTACT number is the one you want
employers to contact you on - your home number
normally. If you don't want to list that number
publicly, just enter a "space" in the CONTACT
number field, and put it in the ALTERNATE phone
number field instead. That way, MacTalent can
contact you if there is a problem with your record,
but we will never release that information to
anyone else.

Can
I List More Than One Email Address?
NO!
Please just enter ONE address in the field - the
one you check most often. It becomes a clickable
"mailto" address on the Detail Record for people
trying to contact you. If you enter multiple
addresses in the field, it will cause messages
being sent to you to bounce. And CHECK the email
address for typos, obviously it's hard for anyone
to contact you if you make an error
here!

I
Just Added A Record, But When I Search For It, It's
Not There!
When
your record is added, it goes into our "holding
tank", so we can review it for acceptability before
posting, and verify that payment has been received.
It takes approximately 24 hours before your record
is moved into the searchable database. Please check
back the next day. If it does not show up by then,
please contact us by email to be sure that your
record was indeed added and that your payment was
received.
