World's First Macintosh-Exclusive Employment
Web Site Now On Line
Offers Free Job Postings, Free Employer Searches
Miami, Florida, December 5, 1997 ... Finally, an employment
Web site "for the rest of us".
MacTalent, a new on-line Internet service with almost 1,000
talented Mac professionals, each seeking part-time, full-time,
contract or freelance work, offers employers a FREE database
at www.mactalent.com to
locate talent by region as well as by specific skills.
Most employment sites on the Internet's World Wide Web charge
employers to search, often $5,000 a year or more. MacTalent also
provides a free job posting bulletin board, allowing employers
who cannot locate an exact match in the MacTalent database to
advertise the position at no charge.
Explaining why he started MacTalent, co-owner Doug Noble said, "While
Apple Computer itself is in turmoil, the Macintosh is alive and
well, used in over 20 percent of American businesses."
Macintoshes are often the computer of choice in the areas of
graphic arts, multimedia, broadcast video editing, and website
design. According to Apple Computer, there are more than 20 million
Macintosh users. Yet, until now, finding the right expertise
for Macintosh positions and projects has been challenging and
expensive, involving recruiters and temp agencies.
"MacTalent pools expert Mac users worldwide", Noble
stated, "where employers can visit free of charge, then
E-mail the talent direct. No agencies. No fees."
Success stories abound. "Just yesterday", Noble said, "a
member called, jubilantly relating how he'd just received his
check for $1,000 in consulting fees, gained from a MacTalent
connection."
MacTalent costs $49 for a six-month membership. Searchable skills
include programming, engineering, Internet, office, database,
and graphic design, which is the most popular. The new member
checks off all areas of expertise, and is allowed up to 200 words
to list his or her accomplishments. Enhanced listings, at $89,
allow up to 1500 words, enough to paste in a three-page resume.
As a further membership benefit, MacTalent offers members the
option of E-mail notification when a job posting matching a member,s
area of expertise is posted by an employer.
Since anonymity is a concern for some, MacTalent offers confidentiality.
The site also features many available Macintosh-related jobs
and a monthly newsletter.
Though only fivemonths old, MacTalent is growing fast. "Even
I'm amazed how rapidly the site caught on, said Frank Kaiser,
Noble's business partner. "It doesn't hurt that we're actively
promoting the site to Macintosh-based employers around the world."
Kaiser said that he empathizes with those searching for jobs. "If
you've ever been unemployed, or unhappy in your current job,
you know how hard it is to find another job. Combing the classifieds
each week. Mailing out resumes blind, to faceless HR people at
companies who never respond. It can be heartbreaking."
The idea for MacTalent came to Noble after a local Mac User
Group meeting in Miami. A friend had just completed a three-week
Applescript programming contract. The question was: Where would
he find his next job?
"As an avid Internet surfer, I knew the Web must be the
answer", Noble explained.
